Annual Events

Meridian is also home to a number of special events. The pride of Meridian events is the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff, now held the fourth week of each October. Almost 200 champion barbecue cookers meet in Meridian by invitation only. They must qualify by placing at a cookoff in accordance with the rules of the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff. Barbecue Cookoff weekend is highlighted by a parade that features local and area floats, bands, horses and sometimes Texas Longhorn Steers.

The Meridian Chamber of Commerce annually holds its Bosque Fest Barbecue Cookoff, held the 2nd weekend in June. It is held in association with the Bosque County Go Texan Committee and follows rules that qualify local winners for the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff in Meridian and Go Texan events at the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo.

At Christmas, the Chamber of Commerce sponsors the grand finale for the year. The annual Christmas parade, held the first Saturday of each December, culminates with the lighting of the courthouse for the holiday season.
