Meridian is also home to a number of special events. The pride of Meridian events is the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff, now held the fourth week of each October. Almost 200 champion barbecue cookers meet in Meridian by invitation only. They must qualify by placing at a cookoff in accordance with the rules of the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff. Barbecue Cookoff weekend is highlighted by a parade that features local and area floats, bands, horses and sometimes Texas Longhorn Steers.
In conjunction with the National Championship Barbecue Cookoff, the chamber host a “Kid’s Burger Cookoff”.
Early spring we hold our annual Chamber Banquet where we award the “Lifetime Achievement Award” to a Meridian resident that has displayed a history of having the good of the community at heart.
